Newsroom standard
Corrections policy
We correct the record plainly, promptly and without erasing the trail.
How corrections work
Send a correction request through the contact page with the story URL, disputed passage and a primary source. The newsroom reviews the underlying record, contacts relevant parties when needed and publishes a note when the record changes.
Material factual corrections appear at the top or bottom of the story with the date, the inaccurate wording and the corrected fact. Spelling and formatting repairs that do not change meaning may be fixed without a note.
Updates and clarifications
New developments are labeled as updates. Clarifications explain language that was accurate but incomplete or easy to misread. We do not remove accurate articles because a source dislikes the conclusion.
